Geisinger Behavioral Health Centers Premier Inpatient Behavioral Health Facilities in Moosic & Danville, Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania’s trusted intensive outpatient program (IOP)

When someone is suffering from a mental health condition, it can negatively impact all aspects of their life, making it difficult for them to thrive. At Geisinger Behavioral Health Centers in Moosic, Pennsylvania, and Danville, Pennsylvania, we offer intensive outpatient programming (IOP) for adults age 18 and older who are experiencing symptoms of mental health concerns and need structured, research-backed care on a flexible schedule.

About our intensive outpatient programs in Moosic, Pennsylvania

The intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) at our centers in Moosic, Pennsylvania, offers a balance of structured therapy and personal flexibility, allowing people to receive the comprehensive care they need while still being able to return home in the evening.

Patients may enter our IOPs after completing a higher level of care, or they may enter the programs as their first step in treatment.

Our IOPs last for approximately four to six weeks, but the actual length of time a person stays in the program will depend on their specific needs, their individualized treatment plan and the progress they make while in the program. The IOPs meet two to three days a week, with morning, afternoon and evening groups available to accommodate our patients’ schedules.

Our goal is to provide accessible, high-quality behavioral healthcare that empowers patients as they learn to manage their symptoms, build resilience and achieve long-term healing.

Who can benefit from our intensive outpatient programming

Our IOPs are designed for adults age 18 and older who need a higher level of care than traditional outpatient but do not require 24-hour supervision or daylong programming. This level of care is beneficial for individuals who have a strong support system at home and are ready to apply the skills they learn in therapy to real-world settings.

In our IOPs, we offer care for people who are suffering from any number of behavioral health concerns, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Self-harm
  • Co-occurring substance use disorders

Therapies & services offered in our IOP

Prior to admitting to our IOPs, individuals complete comprehensive assessments that allow our team to gather information about their background, including things like their medical history, their presenting symptoms, their social life and any previous treatment they may have received. Our team then uses the results of these assessments to put together a thorough, individualized plan of care that outlines what they can expect during their time in the program.

Each person’s care plan may vary, but the services we offer in our intensive outpatient programs in Moosic and Danville include:

  • Medication management services: There are times when some patients may be prescribed medication as part of their overall care plan. While this does not apply to every patient, those who do take medication have access to medication management services, including meetings with a psychiatrist, on an as-needed basis.
  • Group therapy: Group therapy is the main method of care used in our IOPs, and all sessions are led by qualified professionals who specialize in behavioral healthcare. Group therapy offers a safe space for patients to process experiences, gain insight from peers and learn and practice new coping skills. While in these group sessions, patients have an opportunity to discuss many different topics, which can include things like self-esteem, symptom management, healthy boundaries and trauma.
  • Experiential therapies: Patients may have the opportunity to participate in experiential therapies during their time in our IOPs. The types of therapies used and the frequency at which they take place is determined by the patients’ treatment teams.

Our staff uses different types of evidence-based modalities in our IOPs, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and motivational interviewing, to ensure that our patients have a well-rounded care experience that truly meets their needs.
